Hi all,

I'm undertaking a survey that may interest those of you that like to have a bet online on the football. I'd really (really) appreciate a few quick minutes of your time and you can take part by clicking on the link below:

This is part of my Psychology MSc and it has gained ethical approval from the university.

Click the green submit button at the end of pages 1 & 2 to start qs immediately

Many thanks!!!

Thanks to everyone who has taken part so far and please keep the responses coming:clap

You're not asking for feedback but, then again, I wasn't asking for your survey so you can have it anyway.

1. What's with the shitty video near the start without any explanation or point?

Questions 14 and 15. It isn't useful the have the most positive box on the right hand side in one question (e.g strongly agree) and they to have it the opposite way around in the next question on the same page. Maybe it's a deliberate ploy used regularly by the people who et such things but, if it is, it's a fucking stupid one which serves to confuse and could result in people putting down a response that they didn't intend to whilst in a hurry.

As for these statements....

... all I can say is, "what the absolute fuck?". I don't understand what "The gambling industry is a good industry" means. Does it mean it benefits society? Does it mean they are good at what they do? Does it mean they are very pleasant people who give a lot to charity? And what is statement two asking? Does it mean do I think favourably about the industry in general? If so, can you tell me how that differs from the question above it? Or does it mean that I am good for the gambling industry (presumably because I lose money). And question four...... well words fail me. Did you run out of time when putting the questions together and just jot something down at the last minute?

Anyway, you'll be pleased to know that I have completed it and you will no doubt be able to conclude (the point that you set out intending to conclude in the first place) that gambling is a bad thing and that it often causes people stress and worry, financial hardship and family stress.

You know, all the things that everyone already knows. But this will be based on actual evidence :lol

In terms of the wording or structure of some of the questions I would actually agree with some of your points. I had to argue to get several changes on board, but at the end of the day what was allowed as a finished product was completely down to an ethics board.

The video near the start has a purpose, but if I state it here there would be very little point in anyone doing the survey.

Regarding your point that I'm out to conclude that gambling is a bad thing that brings a world of crap to everyone's lives...I can see why you might say that as all that stuff is peddled non-stop, but I have worked in the industry and that's not where I am coming from on this project

Anyway thanks for your input and to everyone else who takes part

If the point of the video was to prove that gamblers aren't going to sit about and watch some pointless shite without any logical reason to do so, I think you've cracked it.

The video is no big deal, only lasts approx 2 mins and the rest are questions that take maybe 10-12 mins

Realise that anyone who takes part is doing me a big turn, so thanks again:clap

Just filled it in. Plenty of seasoned ( polite term for old ) gamblers on here and I would be interested to know how the Younger age - groups answered.

Thanks Samoan,

Yes it will be interesting to see if there are differences between age groups...feel free to pm details if you would like a copy of the finished product
