Liverpool Football Club is very surprised and disappointed with the decision of the Football Association Commission to find Luis Suarez guilty of the charges against him.

We look forward to the publication of the Commission's Judgment. We will study the detailed reasons of the Commission once they become available, but reserve our right to appeal or take any other course of action we feel appropriate with regards to this situation.

We find it extraordinary that Luis can be found guilty on the word of Patrice Evra alone when no-one else on the field of play - including Evra's own Manchester United teammates and all the match officials - heard the alleged conversation between the two players in a crowded Kop goalmouth while a corner kick was about to be taken.

The Club takes extremely seriously the fight against all forms of discrimination and has a long and successful track record in work relating to anti-racist activity and social inclusion. We remain committed to this ideal and equality for all, irrespective of a person's background.

LFC considers racism in any form to be unacceptable - without compromise. It is our strong held belief, having gone over the facts of the case, that Luis Suarez did not commit any racist act. It is also our opinion that the accusation by this particular player was not credible - certainly no more credible than his prior unfounded accusations.

It is key to note that Patrice Evra himself in his written statement in this case said 'I don't think that Luis Suarez is racist'. The FA in their opening remarks accepted that Luis Suarez was not racist.

Luis himself is of a mixed race family background as his grandfather was black. He has been personally involved since the 2010 World Cup in a charitable project which uses sport to encourage solidarity amongst people of different backgrounds with the central theme that the colour of a person's skin does not matter; they can all play together as a team.

He has played with black players and mixed with their families whilst with the Uruguay national side and was Captain at Ajax Amsterdam of a team with a proud multi-cultural profile, many of whom became good friends.

It seems incredible to us that a player of mixed heritage should be accused and found guilty in the way he has based on the evidence presented. We do not recognise the way in which Luis Suarez has been characterised.

It appears to us that the FA were determined to bring charges against Luis Suarez, even before interviewing him at the beginning of November. Nothing we have heard in the course of the hearing has changed our view that Luis Suarez is innocent of the charges brought against him and we will provide Luis with whatever support he now needs to clear his name.

We would also like to know when the FA intend to charge Patrice Evra with making abusive remarks to an opponent after he admitted himself in his evidence to insulting Luis Suarez in Spanish in the most objectionable of terms. Luis, to his credit, actually told the FA he had not heard the insult.

In summary.

It's pish! The FA are in a hard place - accepted! They need to look strong after the verbal hiding they gave Blatter. However, Liverpool's actions to date have not presented a club that finds racism 'totally unacceptable'.

On the contrary, they have simply looked like a club desperately defending their player as if they were challenging a dodgy tackle - not something a controversial as racism.

As much as I would have loved to have seen LFC in the Champions League next season, it was a long shot, so the ban on top of the other charge won't really play a part. There will actually be a positive, as the club will have to find a back up in January, as Carroll is down the pecking order IMO. Unless of course they appeal, which would mean his ban could run into next season, a factor that the club's legal dept will seriously consider.

Unfortunately in this day and age, lawyers get involved in everything and it will drag on. I remember a bloke who refused to accept a driving charge:

" Nick Freeman has been dubbed 'Mr Loophole' due to the nature of some of his successful defences on behalf of his clients.
Sir Alex Ferguson was cleared of driving on the hard shoulder when Freeman representing him put forward that he had been rushing to a lavatory."

I think people forget LFC is owned by yanks now and litigation is a way of of life for them and they do have a right to protect their business interests. Unfortunately heritage and honour is a thing of the past.
Having looked at the report, what baffles me the most is Evra's comment to the refereee:

Evra catches Kuyt two minutes later and is booked. He allegedly shouts at Marriner: 'You're only booking me because I'm black.'

This statement seems to have been disregarded with respect to the case, which is surprising.

This case has more to do with John Terry, England's captain, than it has to do with Patrice Evra. And IF the only evidence is from Evra then i dont blame the club for standing by him. It's more about Englands captain this though.

I dont know what the outcome will be or whether he's guilty or not, i dont care tbh. Suarez has been brilliant to watch this season, i'd of said the same if he was a Utd player but he hasn't had a rest, he played all summer and we have played him every prem game this season with cup appearances too. If his ban is upheld then you can be assured that it will be at a time when it suits Liverpool.

On top of it all i'd actually like to watch us play 8 games without him because these days i'm very happy with our squad, slag Carroll as much as you like but with just a little bit of improvement in him and the players around him we'll do alright, just like we have done without Gerrard.

The 8 game ban is harsh, but I don't anyone believes it will be 8. If he was given three, they would appeal it down to 1, so the 8 will try and be brought down to 3.

Love the 'I've got black mates' defence. What they seem to be missing is that he's accused of racist language, not of being a racist. Two very different things.

It just shows how fucked up the world is though doesn't it. And how the world of football has it's own rules.

If I do the same thing at work, I get sacked. No question. So what's the difference?
But then on the other side, as Seen points out with his example, Keano deliberately goes through Haaland (cnut deserved it) and gets 3 games.

Surely physical violence is more serious than verbal.

Problem is the FA/UEFA/FIFA have set so many precedents that contradict each other, no-one knows what's a fair punishment any more.
