You can maybe argue that a penalty won like that has no effect if it's at the end of the game and the score is already 3-0. Wouldn't make it right to do it, but at least it wouldn't be wrong to suggest that the penalty has made no difference to the outcome (bar the goal difference).

This wasn't a meaningless penalty at the end of the game though, it was the opening goal, and it therefore has to change the whole course of the game from that point on.
 
Who cares Dzeko dived a couple of weeks ago against Sunderland thats a point gained from cheating
 
What about the Danny Murphy pen that wasn't given though, that was two points gained. And the QPR pen and sending off that shouldn't of been. No wonder you're 5pts clear.

And that's why the game is so fucked. The fact Dzeko did it doesn't justify Young doing it. How about if none of the fuckers do it, or is that just a stupid idea.

And for the most part, managers and fans are too thick to work out that it might just be in their own hands to put a stop to it. Don't suppose there were too many Villa fans complaining about Young diving when he was playing for them? What goes around comes around.

If a player on your team is a diving cunt, call him a diving cunt. No excuses, no trying to justify it on the basis that other teams are doing it. They're not going to stop all the time the only people slating them for it are their opponents. Get a few of their own fans on their backs, it might (although I wouldn't hold my breath) make a few of them think twice before doing it again.

And still the excuses come. He fucking cheated, end of story. There was only contact because he went looking for it. Let's take this to a ridiculous extreme - imagine a defender is lying injured in the area. Young gets into the area, could easily run round the injured player, but instead deliberately runs straight at him, trips over him and falls to the floor (triple somersault with pike, just to make sure the ref notices). Is that a penalty? According to your logic (and I know you're far from the only one that thinks like that), then as there was contact, yes it is.

Just because someone's leg is somewhere close to you, doesn't mean you should be able to go out of your way to run into it and fall over.

I thought there was contact with Ashley Young and that a penalty was the right decision.
 
There was only contact because as he started to go he flicked his left foot sideways to ensure there was contact. i've only not commented on it so far because of exactly what RC said. An occasion doesnt spring to mind actually but it definitely happened when he was at Villa at some point. United were nervous & it settled them down, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to work out we had to hold them for another 25 minutes to be in the game. It didnt happen, we were stuffed, c'est la vie.
Tbh my sympathy went a bit when I saw him laughing & joking with our players after half time, but the whole thing leaves a sour taste, particularly after United were coming close to being the 'good guys' this year.
For Fergie to say what he has, & obviously hes not going to say 'it wasnt a pen', then thats the closest thing hes ever said to 'my player should have been booked'.
I'm not sure whether I feel sorry for Halsey or not tbh. Hes battled back from illness to get back to the top & if he hadnt given that penalty Fergie would have had him back off the list :lol That challenge was never not being given at Old Trafford !! simple as.
